China on Thursday ushered in its largest annual human migration, also known as "Chunyun" in Chinese, as people set off for family reunions or vacations during the Spring Festival holiday.

1月28日，我国迎来了每年最大规模的人口流动，即“春运”，人们在春节假期返乡与家人团聚或外出度假。

The 2021 Spring Festival travel rush begins 14 days ahead of the Spring Festival, or the Lunar New Year. This year, it lasts for 40 days, spanning January 28 to March 8.

2021年春运于春节前14天启动，从1月28日持续至3月8日，共40天。

The 40-day travel peak is expected to see around 1.7 billion passenger trips, up about 10 percent year on year, but more than 40 percent lower than that of 2019, the Ministry of Transport has said.

据交通运输部预计，2021年春运期间全国将发送旅客17亿人次左右，比2020年增加一成多，比2019年下降四成多。

To curb the spread of the coronavirus during the holiday period, China issued a plan to reduce mass gatherings and strengthen epidemic control, with measures such as advocating off-peak travel and encouraging people to stay put during the holiday.

为抑制春节期间的新冠病毒传播，我国发布了减少大规模聚集、加强疫情防控的计划，如倡导人们避开出行高峰、假期期间原地过年等。

China passed a law on Thursday that for the first time explicitly allows its coast guard to fire on foreign vessels.

1月22日，中国通过了一项法律，首次明确海警可向外国船只开火。

China’s top legislative body, the National People’s Congress standing committee, passed the Coast Guard Law, according to state media reports.

据官媒报道，中国最高立法机关——全国人大常委会通过了海警法。

According to draft wording in the bill published earlier, the coast guard is allowed to use “all necessary means” to stop or prevent threats from foreign vessels.

根据此前公布的法案草案规定，海警机构有权采取一切必要措施制止侵害、排除危险。

On Friday, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the nation's top legislature, passed the newly amended Animal Quarantine Law, which will come into effect on May 1.

1月22日，全国最高立法机关全国人大常委会通过了新修订的《动物防疫法》，新法将于5月1日起施行。

The law concerns all livestocks, animals raised or captured by humans. Based on their potential harms to agricultural production and human health, the law divides animal diseases into three kinds and requires a mandatory quarantine of animals that severely threaten agriculture and human health.

该法涉及家畜家禽和人工饲养、捕获的其他动物。根据其对养殖业生产和人体健康的危害程度，该法将动物疫病分为三类，并要求对严重危害养殖业生产和人体健康的动物疫病实施强制免疫。

Compared with the past version, which came into effect in 2008, the newly amended law highlights the prevention of rabies, which is mainly carried by dogs. The law makes it clear that any person or organization raising a dog must vaccinate it routinely, and register with the vaccination certificate.

与2008年生效的版本相比，新修订的法律突出了对主要由犬类携带的狂犬病的预防。新法明确规定，单位和个人饲养犬只，应当按照规定定期免疫接种狂犬病疫苗，凭免疫证明进行登记。

Those who walk a dog outdoors must attach a legally registered card to it, and keep the dog on a leash to prevent it from hurting people or spreading diseases.

Students in China will be able to study cosmetology to meet the country's growing demand for beauty services, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education.

根据教育部近日发布的一份声明，中国学生将可就读医学美容专业，以满足中国市场对美容服务日益增长的需求。

In a response to a proposal of the third session of the 13th National People's Congress, the ministry said it will adjust the list of majors to add cosmetology as a subcategory, depending on the school's own circumstances.

教育部在对十三届全国人大三次会议一份提案的答复中表示，有条件的学位授予单位可根据自身情况调整专业目录，自主增设医学美容相关二级学科。

China's cosmetology industry is soaring, with procedures such as plastic surgery on the rise. In 2019, the medical market size was 176.9 billion yuan ($27.4 billion), with over 13,000 clinics and 38,343 beauticians, according to iResearch Consulting, a market research company in China.

中国的美容行业正在飞速发展，整形外科等手术也在增多。根据中国市场调查公司艾瑞咨询的数据，2019年，医学美容市场规模为1769亿元，有超过1.3万家诊所和38343名美容师。

China's central bank will issue a commemorative coin on Friday to celebrate the coming Chinese zodiac Year of the Ox.

中国央行于1月29日发行牛年纪念币一枚，以庆祝即将到来的牛年。

The round, copper-alloy coin is 27 mm in diameter and has a face value of 10 yuan (about 1.55 U.S. dollars), said the People's Bank of China.

据中国人民银行介绍，这枚圆形铜合金硬币直径为27毫米，面值为10元。

The front side of the coin shows its face value and the year of issuance, while the reverse side features an ox raising its head.

纪念币正面为面值和发行年份，背面为一头抬头牛造型。

The central bank will issue a total of 150 million such coins.

央行的牛年纪念币发行总量为1.5亿枚。

The Year of the Ox is the second zodiac sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle. It will start on Feb. 12, 2021 and last until Jan. 31, 2022.

牛年是中国十二生肖循环中的第二个生肖，于2021年2月12日开始，2022年1月31日结束。

The Chinese Zodiac is represented by 12 animals to record the years and reflect people's attributes, including the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. 

十二生肖以十二种动物来记录年份，反映人的属性，分别为鼠、牛、虎、兔、龙、蛇、马、羊、猴、鸡、狗和猪。
