Brit Pop，这是个在20世纪90年代初达到高峰的音乐潮流。以乐队如The Stone Roses、Oasis、Pulp、Blur、Verve等等为代表。这帮人的灵感，多半来自披头士(The Beatles)和金克斯(The Kinks)这样的英国摇滚元老。但真要说起来，像Jesus & Mary Chain、The Smiths、The Cure这样的80年代另类摇滚乐队，才让Brit Pop多了份现代感。再加上Ride和My Bloody Valentine这类Shoegaze乐队，和New Order、Happy Mondays这类曼城乐队的引领，这场音乐狂欢才真正燃起来。

90年代初，当美国人迷恋上了像Nirvana（帅！）和Pearl Jam（呃…）这种情绪”假”嗨的Grunge乐队时，英国的Brit Pop就在创新中玩儿得飞起，虽然矛盾的是，也更偏“流行”了。

Brit Pop是毋庸置疑是一场绚烂的烟火，但像所有好东西一样，它也催生了一些廉价、肤浅的模仿者，如Coldplay、Ed Sheeran，还有那种让人郁闷的乐队，像Radiohead。

Brip Pop was a music scene that peaked in the early 1990s, with bands like The Stone Roses, Oasis, Pulp, Blur, Verve, and others. While its roots were in classic UK rock bands like The Beatles and The Kinks, it was 1980s alternative bands like Jesus & Mary Chain, The Smiths, The Cure that gave a distinctive, modern sound, and then Shoegaze bands like Ride and My Bloody Valentine and Manchester bands like New Order and Happy Mondays that set the course.

While the USA was obsessed with emotionally sincere grunge bands like Nirvana (yes!) and Pearl Jam (yuck!) in the early 90s, the UK's Brit Pop sound was generally more inventive, and paradoxically, more 'pop'.   

It was a glorious scene, a bright moment, but like all good things, it inspired cheap, superficial copycats like Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, or miserable drivel like Radiohead.

The Stone Roses

The Stone Roses were really the band that popularized the Brit Pop sound.

The La's

虽然石玫瑰让Brit Pop名声大噪，但咱们得承认，The La's的《There She Goes》（1988年）是个开创先河的神曲。

选出一首Blur的代表曲实在难，但《Song 2》的那股激情，真的没得比。

当说到Oasis的歌，选择就超级容易了，毕竟他们的歌听起来都差不多。我一开始真的很讨厌Oasis，甚至还有一次我非常不情愿地带他们去吃饭，陪他们做音响检查，那天他们刚好是第一次来到美国（这故事挺长一下讲不完）。

几年后，我在伦敦看他们的演唱会，听着五万人一起合唱这首歌的时候，我发现我竟然也沉醉其中，享受这份罪恶的快感。但这并不能改变他们一直很让人抓狂的事实。

It's easy to pick an Oasis song, because they all sound the same.  I absolutely hated Oasis when they first came out, and I had the displeasure of taking them to dinner / soundcheck on their first day ever in the USA (long story). 

Years later, I saw them play in London, and hearing 50,000 people singing along with this, I couldn't help enjoy the guilty pleasure. But they're still assholes.

The Verve

The Verve的第一张专辑《Storm In Heaven》就是个炸裂的杰作，绝对是那个十年里最棒的专辑之一。他们的风格太迷幻，不怎么适合当流行明星，但正因为如此，我们更喜欢他们。

The Verve's first album Storm In Heaven is a *perfect 10* masterpiece, one of the best albums of the decade.   They were too psychedelic to be pop stars, but we like them all the better for it.

Radiohead

这是来自只出了一首热门单曲的Radiohead的最好歌曲。他们之后的所有专辑，就都是Thom Yorke在哭诉他写不出另一首爆款歌曲。

Best song from the one-hit-wonder band Radiohead.  All the records after this are just Thom Yorke crying about how he couldn't write another hit song.

Pulp

Common People

Pulp的《Common People》可以说是Brit Pop的巅峰之作了，并且终于有一支让人看着不头疼的MV了，你说是不？

Pulp's Common People is arguably the apex of Brit Pop, and finally a music video that doesn't suck, eh?

2. 你们凭什么自称Brit Pop专家呢？

-- DJ Ozone在90年代初曾主持过一个深受欢迎的电台节目，专门翻播这类音乐。他采访过那个时期几乎所有的Brit Pop乐队（Stone Roses除外），身经百战的他有足够的故事证明自己。甚至有些乐队成员在他家沙发上过夜过。Koxon，也被称为DJ Cavia也在他沙发上睡过，不过他已经记不清了。

-- 当然！但是要挑对时机。所以你就早点来，晚点走吧。

-- 其实没有太大必要，我们对这个类型的音乐已经非常了解，有信心做到尽善尽美。你脑海中的那首歌，可能一会儿就会被放，或者可能已经播过了。

大热门肯定不会少，但也会有很多意想不到的、冷门的佳作。当然，我们也很乐意听你分享你的最爱。

-- You can have your techno another night.  There are many colours in the rainbow.   Trust us -- a lot of these Brit Pop songs are dance-floor friendly -- let's party!

2. What makes you an expert on Brit Pop? 

-- DJ Ozone had a popular radio show in the early 90s focusing on this music.  He hosted and interviewed nearly every Brit Pop band during that period (except the Stone Roses), with battle stories to prove it.   Some of them even slept on his sofa.   Koxon aka DJ Cavia also slept on his sofa, but he doesn't remember that.

3. Who's better -- Blur or Oasis?

-- We hate / love them both equally. But if you're in a fight with them, Oasis is scary.   That Blur guy just blushed and walked away when we told him to get lost.  It was kind of cute.

4.  I like to cry, sometimes.  Are you going to play some sad songs?

-- Yes of course!  But at the right time -- so come early and stay late.

6. Do you take requests?

-- It's not necessary, we know the genre pretty well, we got it covered.  Whatever's in your head -- it's probably coming up soon, or we already played it.  There will be all the big hits, and also lots of surprise, obscure songs.   But we're happy to hear what your favorites are.
