This is a good question. First we need to understand why China has a bad reputation.

The fact is that it is the result of the Western media monopoly, not that China is doing a bad job.

It's been 70 years since 1949. The income of Chinese people has gone from being lower than that of India to being several times that of India. The average life expectancy of the Chinese is also higher than that of India, and the average education of the Chinese, higher than that of India.

I am not saying that India is bad, I just need a reference point. The fact is that India is also growing, but China is growing even faster.

This change can be seen all over the world. But the Western media continues to discredit China.

It is important to know that the majority of people in most countries, who understand the world, or are able to do worldwide reporting, are still only a few in the Western media. The media in the vast majority of countries do not have the financial means to support coverage of worldwide events.

This gives the Western media a huge opportunity. They can distort and selectively report on what is going on in the world at will.

For example, they will let people all over the world know that some Western person is full of love and takes care of a few stray dogs, but they don't say that in Africa millions of people die of starvation every year.

Because they don't want to report it.

For example, they describe the riots in Hong Kong as peaceful and democratic demonstrations, while thinking about London, Paris, and also the United States, as a challenge to the law.

Because they are full of ideological bias.

Under the influence of the Western media, even normal accounts of what it is like to be in China are seen by some Westerners, as helping China in its propaganda.

So China's bad reputation is not the result of anything China has done wrong, but the result of distorted reporting by the Western media.

Why is the Western media distorting China? Because China has chosen the path of development, a different culture and a different political system. When China develops, it will inevitably make the world understand that there is more than one Western model to develop.

This one would be a confidence destroyer for the West and would even make the Western people yearn for the Chinese model of development, a consequence that Western politicians are not willing to accept.

So what is China going to do to turn this around?

1. As China's economy continues to grow, more and more media from countries will discharge interviewers to China who will cover China from a different perspective than the Western media.

2. More and more non-Chinese people will come to China, they will travel, live and work in China, and they will be exposed to the real China. For example, foreigners who have come and lived in China, I don't think anyone believes the joke that China is a police state anymore.

Especially these non-Chinese people will tell their friends what they have seen, and this is the so-called "word-of-mouth effect".

3. China itself is trying to improve its communication, but to be honest, its own communication, especially that of the state media, is almost a mess. It is almost as if only Chinese individuals are left to explain to non-Chinese people, who tell their foreign friends what China is all about.

As I have said many times, an American friend of mine, always tries to tell me how oppressed the Chinese people are. But when I got him to come to China and do a trip, his views changed completely.

事实上，这是西方媒体垄断的结果，而不是中国做得不好。

从1949年到现在已经70年了。中国人的收入从比印度低，到现在是印度的几倍。中国人的平均寿命也比印度高，中国人的平均教育程度，比印度高。

我不是说印度不好，我只是需要一个参照物。事实上，印度也在发展，但中国发展得更快。

这种变化在全世界都能看到。但西方媒体却不断诋毁中国。

要知道，在大多数国家，了解世界的人，或者说能够做世界性报道的人，在西方媒体中还只是少数。绝大多数国家的媒体没有财力支持对世界性事件的报道。

这就给了西方媒体一个巨大的机会。他们可以随意歪曲和选择性地报道世界上发生的事情。

比如，他们会让全世界的人都知道某个西方人充满爱心，照顾了几只流浪狗，但他们不会说在非洲每年有几百万人死于饥饿。

因为他们不想报道。

比如，他们把香港的暴动说成是和平民主的示威，而把伦敦、巴黎，还有美国的暴动说成是对法律的挑战。

因为他们充满了意识形态的偏见。

在西方媒体的影响下，即使是正常的对中国的描述，也会被一些西方人认为是在帮助中国进行宣传。

所以，中国的坏名声不是中国做错了什么，而是西方媒体歪曲报道的结果。

西方媒体为什么要歪曲中国？因为中国选择了发展的道路，选择了不同的文化，选择了不同的政治制度。中国发展起来后，必然会让世界明白，西方的发展模式不止一种。

这个会让西方人信心大伤，甚至会让西方人向往中国的发展模式，这是西方政治家不愿意接受的后果。

那么中国要怎么做才能扭转这个局面呢？

1. 随着中国经济的不断发展，越来越多的国家媒体会派出采访人员来中国，他们会从与现在西方媒体不同的角度来报道中国。

2. 越来越多的非中国人来到中国，他们会在中国旅游、生活、工作，他们会接触到真实的中国。比如，来过中国生活的外国人，我想没有人再相信中国是警察国家的笑话了。

尤其是这些非中国人，会把自己看到的东西告诉朋友，这就是所谓的 "口碑效应"。

3. 中国自己也在努力改善传播，但说实话，中国自己的传播，尤其是国家媒体的传播，几乎是一塌糊涂。几乎只剩下一些中国个人在向非中国人解释，他们告诉外国朋友中国是怎么回事。

我说过很多次，我的一个美国朋友，总是试图告诉我，中国人民是如何被压迫的。但当我把他弄到中国来做旅行时，他的看法就完全改变了。

所以，不着急，一步一步来吧。

最近有一些朋友留言要求，能不能翻译一些海外人士对中国的看法。为了满足他们的要求，下期开始，我就准备一些吧。操作上会有一些小麻烦，主要是海外人士的表达习惯和国内的某些红线有是不是那么一致。即便对方是帮中国说话，但是表达习惯上还是按照西方的习惯来。典型的就是对台湾的表达。所以我会少量做一些修补吧。

经过一段时间的努力，我自己这边在海外的多个外语自媒体（目前使用英语、日语、法语、西班牙语）等每月阅读已经超过1000万次，向2000万迈进。用外语而不是中文，向全世界讲好中国故事。现在重点要强化视频的内容。
